Hello All, I am now back to working on my goal of organization this year after a 2 week whirlwind vacation. While away I was able to create 2 differentiated spelling centers that I am focusing on organizing this week. I have organized these centers for those who do not have the money to invest in all of the fancy organizing tools that I have been gotten for this upcoming year. This weeks drawer is simple using plastic bags and binder rings. The real organization comes in differentiating these two centers. Lets start with The Jungle Drop, this is a CVC word practice center. I have placed all of the working mats, bags of pictures, bags of letters and flashcards in the drawer. I have printed all of these on cardstock and laminated each. The flashcards will eventually make their way onto a binder ring for easy self checking.
To start differentiating these units have the children match the lowercase letters to a print out of the uppercase letters. For those that are ready give a bag of pictures and letters with a mat and allow them to spell randomly. To differentiate for those that are not ready seperate the pictures by vowel sound. Tape the correct vowel onto the center crate and give the children a bag with only the letters needed to spell a few words. Help as needed. Use the worksheets to assess learning and for extra practice. I also have scratch paper available for the children to write the words if they want. These same differences can be used with the CVCV and CVVC Volcano Eruption center. Hello All, Today we had so much fun with our sight word from my freebie Snowflake Slap . First I laid out all of the snowflakes on the carpet. If the child could read me the word they could keep the card and crumple it into a snowball. Once all of the words were read and squished I told the class we could have a snowball fight! It was such great fun that we took our "snowballs" into another kinder classroom and attacked them. As the kids threw the sight word snowballs we made more snowballs and threw them into the crowd from leftover paper. It was great fun! Once we settled back into our classroom we placed all of the snowballs into a bucket and each child pulled a word. If they could read it they recorded it on the left side of the worksheet below, if they couldn't read the word they recorded it on the right.
