Bubba Watson wins the Masters! Another ADD Success story!

O.K. so you may be wondering why in the world I would be putting a post about Golf on my Pre-K sight. Well, I hate golf it is boring and long, I have had no interest in it at all until today, Easter Sunday as Bubba Watson and a guy from South Africa went on a shooting match for the win. It wasn't the adrenaline that got my attention but my dad saying, " If Bubba Watson wins it will be a popular win, he's and ADD guy like you and your brother."

Just like my obsession with Michael Phelps at the summer olympics a few years ago I find enjoyment in seeing those who struggled in school find success. As my Dad stated before I myself am ADD and my brother is ADHD. I spent the last hour looking at interviews about Bubba Watson and not only found that he describes himself as a typical ADD kid but also that he is a Christian! I have to say I may be following his golf career from now on.

This is just to say WE CAN DO ANYTHING to those teachers and administrators who said we couldn't, to say that WE CAN LEARN if we are met where we are and understood for who God made us and that WE ARE SUCESSFUL PEOPLE who can use what some see as weaknesses and turn them into strengths!

You can probably tell that I have strong opinions for those who are diagnosed with learning disabilities and then thrown into a classroom where they are just passed on instead of taught. I do think the school system is doing better by kids like me in this century and hopefully the school system and teachers will continue to seek out best practices and teaching strategies that allow everyone to be successful in their own way.

Go Bubba Watson!

Happy Easter,
Christine

  1. Great story! I was cheering for Bubba too! You observations are correct regarding students with minor learning disabilities. My daugther went through a program which changed her life. She has the focus and power to do anything she sets her mind to and because.... she can do all things through Christ who strengthens her! What was a thought to be a disability is now a powerful unleashed gift!

  2. I know I am hearing more and more success stories from those with learning disabilities. Hopefully the days ofjust passing kids along is behind us and we can truly reach every child. Last night I had an inspiration after writing this to start another blog, please visit! www.theadhdteacher.blogspot.com

I will be focusing on ADHD, the pros and cons, teachers best practices and startegies and real life stories of how children are suceeding with these so called disabilities. I would love to hear your daughters story and what program she took that was so successful for her.

    Blessings, Christine

  3. The program my daughter went through is called Learn To Learn. It focused on developing fundamental learning skills at the brain level. She went through a series of physical drills and excersises which helped get her wired up better to learn. There is also a cognitive element done on the computer. It starts at a basic level and works its way up.

  4. Thanks for this piece. We need all the ADHD success stories we can get. I am an ADHD adult, and I work with ADHD teens and children to succeed in school. I find that success stories really help. I have a book coming out this June that will more hope. Thanks for what you do! I am doing a virtual tour and have the "stops" already planned, but I would very much like you to consider reviewing my book. Please let me know if you have any interest.

Sight word freebie, ideas and more Dyslexia Worksheets!

Hello All, Today we had so much fun with our sight word from my freebie Snowflake Slap . First I laid out all of the snowflakes on the carpet. If the child could read me the word they could keep the card and crumple it into a snowball. Once all of the words were read and squished I told the class we could have a snowball fight! It was such great fun that we took our "snowballs" into another kinder classroom and attacked them. As the kids threw the sight word snowballs we made more snowballs and threw them into the crowd from leftover paper. It was great fun! Once we settled back into our classroom we placed all of the snowballs into a bucket and each child pulled a word. If they could read it they recorded it on the left side of the worksheet below, if they couldn't read the word they recorded it on the right. The ones most did not know were pretty consistent so I know which ones we need the most work on. So hop on over the TpT to grab your free copy of Snowflake Slap an

The Story of Creation Flip Book Freebie!

As many of you already know I am a Christian school teacher in a small private school. I have decided to start making my Bible craftivities into files for others to access for their own Christian classrooms or homeschools. I have just finished putting together my first file for a Creation Flip Book and it is listed for free on TpT. The file includes full picture instructions as well as an option for color or black and white. Throughout this year I plan to list each Bible story craftrivity I do in my classroom and then bundle them at the end of the year. I am also working on a God's Journal, similar to the poetry and math journals you see so often in classrooms theses days but this one will celebrate our faith. I would appreciate your feedback after downloading the file and sharing this with other believers. Please take a minute to follow me here on my blog and hop on over to TpT to get your free flip book file. While you are there please check out my other items and follow my store

Animal and habitat teaching ideas for pre-k and a freebie!

O.K. so we all remember those famous dioramas that we made in elementary school were meant to teach us about animals and where they live. While these are cute projects with a purpose they are best suited for elementary students not pre-k. But with curious minds and a natural love for animals it only makes sense to introduce our kiddos to facts about animals and where they live around the world. For pre-k there are so many great easy ways to incorporate animals into our classrooms. I like to make animal masks for each habitat we are working on as well as read the room cards and recording sheets. The kiddos can record the name of the animal by reading it on the other childs mask. My class also enjoys making animals out of construction paper and gluing some facts that I have typed and printed about the animals. I like to try to decorate my room to mimic the habitat we are working on, I have to say I am a huge stuffed animal collector so I have many of the animals needed in beany baby size
